Untitled is a 1923 oil by Antoine Pevsner, held at Museum of Modern Art.
This painting shows a strange, floating shape made of big, simple forms. There’s a white oval, a black arch, and a few curved lines that look like they’re spinning. The colors are mostly muted—beige, gray, and black—but there’s a bright red stripe near the center. The brushstrokes are thick in some spots, almost like the paint was scraped or layered. The artist used a mix of oils and resin, which gives the surface a rough, uneven feel. That red stripe stands out against the otherwise calm colors, drawing your eye right to it. If you like this style, check out impasto next.
Antoine Pevsner was a Russian-born French sculptor and the older brother of Alexii Pevsner and Naum Gabo.
