You see a dark room with a single window letting in a sliver of light. The walls are bare, the floor is empty, and the light barely touches anything. This print is made with mezzotint, a technique that starts with a rough metal plate to create deep blacks. Fontecilla scraped and polished the plate to pull out the faint light in the room. It’s quiet, almost like a secret. If you like how light and shadow play here, look up *chiaroscuro*.
