Untitled is a 1926 ink by Francisco Dosamantes, held at Museum of Modern Art.
This black-and-white print shows two figures standing close together. One person is wrapped in a long cloak and leans slightly forward, while the other holds a staff and wears a head covering. The background looks like rough, swirling lines, almost like wind or water, and there’s a bundle or bag on the ground near their feet. The artist used a woodcut technique, which means they carved the design into wood and then printed it. The lines are sharp and the shading comes from the areas left uncarved. Check out woodcut to see how this printmaking method works.
Francisco Dosamantes was a Mexican artist and educator who is best known for is educational illustrations and graphic work against fascism. He was a founding member of the Taller de Gráfica Popular and the Salón de la Plástica Mexicana.
