Untitled
1956
ink
From the collection of Museum of Modern Art
Untitled is a 1956 ink by Friedrich Meckseper, depicting Sheet Music, held at Museum of Modern Art.
This etching shows a tangle of dark lines on a pale background. The lines look like music notes or electrical wires—maybe both. It feels jumpy, like a silent film scene caught mid-shock. The artist, Meckseper, made this right after World War II. Etchings like this use acid to bite lines into metal, then ink fills the grooves. The result jumps off the page. The plate size is small—just under 17 inches wide. See it next at The Museum of Modern Art.
Friedrich Meckseper (1936–2019) was a German artist, born in Bremen.
