Untitled is a 1958 ink by Horst Janssen, held at Museum of Modern Art.
This print shows a group of tall, stiff figures against a dark background. Their faces are blank, with big eyes and simple lines. The person on the right is patched together like a collage, with shapes stitched into their clothes. A dog sits in the corner, small and out of place. The artist used a mix of sharp lines and rough textures, almost like scratching into the surface. The figures feel both distant and strangely close, as if they’re made of old paper. Look up etching to see how this technique works.
Horst Janssen (14 November 1929 – 31 August 1995) was a German draftsman, printmaker, poster artist and illustrator.
