This painting shows two faces pressed close together, almost merging. The colors are thick and warm—burnt oranges, deep browns, and dark shadows. The brushstrokes are heavy, making the faces look rough and textured, like they’re carved from clay. The artist used a lot of paint, piling it on in places so it almost looks three-dimensional. This technique is called *impasto*, where paint is applied so thickly you can almost feel it. Next, look up impasto to see how other artists used this same bold, tactile style.
