This painting shows a row of old houses with worn, uneven walls. The colors are mostly muted—yellows, grays, and browns—with a few patches of green grass. One house has a dark doorway and a small window with a dark frame. The rooftops are slanted, and a tree stands in the middle of the scene. The brushstrokes are thick in places, giving the walls a textured look. This style is called *impasto*, where paint is laid on thickly so you can almost feel the strokes. Look up technique: impasto to see more examples of this bold painting style.
