Untitled is a 2008 ink by Josiah McElheny, held at Museum of Modern Art.
This image shows a completely white square with faint, ghostly white letters spelling "WHITE MODERNITY" in the center. The letters are barely visible, almost blending into the background. Everything else is just a flat, empty white space. The piece is actually a set of thirteen tiny engraved plates—each one so precise that the lines almost disappear. It’s like looking at a blank page that hides something if you look closely enough. Want to see how this works up close? Check out the technique: engraving.
Josiah McElheny (1966, Boston) is an artist and sculptor, primarily known for his work with glass blowing and assemblages of glass and mirrored glassed objects (see Glass art).
