About this work

This painting looks chaotic but has a clear figure in the middle—a shirtless man in a hat, holding a golden lion’s head. Around him are torn pieces of paper, some showing faces or buildings, others just splatters of ink and paint. The colors are mostly brown, black, and gold, with streaks of white and red cutting across the surface. The artist glued and layered printed paper, then drew over it with ink. The mix of torn images and hand-drawn lines creates a busy, almost collage-like effect. Look up cross-hatching next to see how artists use lines to build texture.
