Untitled is a 1938 ink by Lyonel Feininger, held at Museum of Modern Art.
This sketch shows a big ship docked next to a small building with a sloped roof. The ship has three tall masts, lots of ropes, and a small cabin at the back. The drawing is made with lots of thin, crisscrossed lines, giving it a textured look. The artist used a technique where lines overlap to create shading. This makes the shapes pop without needing colors. Next, check out cross-hatching to see how it works in other drawings.
Lyonel Charles Adrian Feininger was a German-American painter, and a leading exponent of Expressionism.
