You see a tall, white building with staircases going every which way. People walk up and down at impossible angles—some upside-down, some sideways—all without falling. Escher drew this to play with perspective. The rules of gravity don’t apply here. Each person thinks their floor is the real one, even though the stairs connect in ways that shouldn’t work. It’s like a puzzle you can’t solve, but you keep trying anyway. If you like this, look up lithography to see how Escher made these sharp, detailed prints.
