Untitled is a 1952 ink by Mario Avati, held at Museum of Modern Art.
This black-and-white print shows a woman with big curly hair and a wide collar. She’s holding a fan and stands in front of a building with a sign that says "Metropolitain." The background is fuzzy, but you can make out a few small figures and a street scene. The artist used a rough, sketchy style that makes the image feel dreamy and a little unsettled. The word "Metropolitain" hints at a subway or city setting, but the scene looks more like a fantasy. If you like this style, check out lithography to see how it’s made.
Mario Avati (1921–2009) was an Italian artist, born in Monaco.
