Untitled is a 1974 graphite by Peter Hutchinson, held at Museum of Modern Art.
This image shows two photos of a grassy area with a thin line of small rocks or pebbles spelling out a word. The top photo is close-up, showing the letters clearly. The bottom photo is wider, including a tree and a sidewalk in the background, with a person’s arm visible in the corner. The artist wrote notes about the colors used—yellow, brown, white—and where it was done. The title is handwritten as *Thrown Rope II*, dated November 1974. Check out the artist’s other work to see how he plays with simple materials. Peter Hutchinson
