Untitled is a 1972 charcoal by Simone Forti, depicting Orb, held at Museum of Modern Art.
You see a black-and-white drawing full of loose, tangled lines that bunch up in some spots and fade in others. It looks like scribbles at first, but the marks move together like a slow dance on paper. The artist used charcoal to build up light and dark patches without a clear shape. This work comes from a series called Large Illumination Drawings, made in 1972. Forti didn’t sketch from life; she moved around the paper like she was tracing motion in the air. The result is somewhere between drawing and movement. Try looking up Simone Forti next.
