About this work

This sketch shows a simple scene in loose, dark lines. At the top, two birds fly side by side against a light background. Below them, a large, solid black shape sits like a hat or hood, covering most of the picture. The drawing uses only a few colors—black, white, and a faint gray—with no details inside the shapes. The lines are rough and uneven, almost like a quick doodle. Next, check out chiaroscuro to see how artists use light and dark for drama.
