You see a white sheet with a single jagged cut running from top to bottom. The edges of the cut are slightly raised, catching the light like a scar. Yamaguchi Gen made this by pressing damp paper into a metal plate, then tearing it while it was still wet. The cut isn’t random—it’s precise, almost surgical. He called this series "Star," though there’s no star in sight. To see how other artists used paper as a material, look up lithography.
