Untitled is a 1974 ink by Brion Gysin, held at Museum of Modern Art.
This image looks like a messy cityscape made from ink and cut-up photos. Tall buildings fill the top half, their windows and walls overlapping in a chaotic grid. The bottom half is a tangle of black lines, like broken fences or barbed wire. Two small photos of real buildings peek through the jumble. The artist glued real photos into the ink drawing, then scratched and scribbled over them. It feels like the city is falling apart. Look up cross-hatching next to see how artists use lines to create depth.
Brion Gysin (19 January 1916 – 13 July 1986) was a British-Canadian painter, writer, sound poet, performance artist and inventor of experimental devices.
