Untitled is a 1940 ink by Carroll Cloar, held at Museum of Modern Art.
This black-and-white drawing shows five men standing close together in a line. The two on the ends are holding sticks, and the man in the middle has his arm around a younger guy next to him. Behind them, you can see a fence, a small house, and a sign for a store selling wine. The artist used a technique called lithography, which lets them draw on stone and print it like this. The lines are sharp, and the shading gives it a textured look. Check out how lithography works next.
Carroll Cloar (January 18, 1913 – April 10, 1993) was a nationally known 20th-century painter born in Earle, Arkansas, who focused his work on surreal views of Southern U.S.
