This sketch shows five faces drawn quickly in black ink. The lines are loose and scratchy, like hurried notes. Two adults—one with a serious expression, the other with a softer look—dominate the top half. Below them, a child’s face peers up, and two more heads float in the corners. The artist didn’t smooth out the lines; the paper shows through in spots, giving it a raw, unfinished feel. The faces are all different, but the style ties them together. Next, check out technique: drypoint to see how this kind of etching works.
