About this work

This sketch shows a big, blank-faced woman with loose, tangled hair and bare shoulders. Behind her, three smaller heads peek out from the same hair—like they’re hiding or growing from her. The lines are scratchy and uneven, with some areas filled in with tight, swirly marks. The artist used quick, rough strokes to show movement in the hair, almost like it’s alive. The faces all have the same empty stare, which feels strange and a little unsettling. If you like this sketchy, mysterious style, check out cross-hatching to see how artists build shapes with layers of lines.
