This painting is a wall of small, bright squares in red, blue, yellow, and green. The squares are arranged in neat rows and columns across four black sheets of paper. Some squares overlap slightly, while others sit flat against the dark background. The artist cut and pasted colored paper onto black sheets, then added pencil lines to define the edges. It looks like a puzzle made of pure color with no real shapes or scenes. Next, check out Ellsworth Kelly to see how he played with color and form in other works.
