Untitled is a 1985 watercolor by Jean Cortot, held at Museum of Modern Art.
This painting looks like three messy, colorful layers. The top and bottom are swirls of pink, blue, and yellow paint with black scribbles spelling out words like "ROMANCE" and "DREAMS." The middle strip is a white band with handwritten text—some words are clear, others smudged or cut off. The mix of paint and writing feels raw, like someone splashed colors fast and then added words on top. The artist used real brushstrokes and even stuck on paper pieces, making it look uneven on purpose. Want to see more like this? Check out Jean Cortot.
