Untitled is a 1968 chalk by Jiro Takamatsu, held at Museum of Modern Art.
This sketch shows a strange, curved ceiling that looks like it’s melting or bending. The lines on it are sharp and geometric, almost like a grid stretched over a warped surface. Below, there are two small diagrams: one is a front view of the shape, and the other is a side view showing how flat it appears from the side but warped from above. The artist labeled the parts in both Japanese and English, mixing the two languages. The date and signature are tucked in the corner—this wasn’t just a quick doodle. Jirō Takamatsu (高松 次郎, Takamatsu Jirō; 20 February 1936 – 25 June 1998) was one of the most important postwar Japanese artists.
