This sketch shows a tall, skinny building drawn with lots of overlapping lines. The lines crisscross everywhere, making some areas look dark and others almost see-through. To the left, there’s a simpler outline of a shorter building, and a big gray circle floats in the top-left corner. The artist used tiny, repeated lines to build up shadows and shapes—like a pencil sketch on steroids. It’s all done by hand, with no digital help. Check out cross-hatching to see how artists create depth with lines alone.
