This painting shows a tree made of flat, painted shapes. The branches are thick and dark, with clusters of round leaves in soft yellows and greens. The background is a plain, light color, almost like a wall. The edges of the leaves are uneven, as if cut by hand. The artist used cut-and-pasted paper, then added watercolor to it. The leaves don’t look real—they’re more like shapes glued on. Look up Laura Owens to see more of her work.
