Untitled is a 1951 oil by Joong Seop Lee, held at Museum of Modern Art.
This painting looks like it was carved into metal foil and stuck on paper. You see lots of tangled lines and shapes—people, trees, and animals all mixed together in a busy, messy way. Some spots are darker, others lighter, and there’s a weird glow around a few areas, like a red-brown stain and a greenish shape. The artist used sharp tools to cut into the metal, then added oil paint in small spots to make colors pop. It feels like the whole thing might fall apart if you touched it. Look up Joong Seop Lee to see more of his strange, layered work.
Lee Jung-seob (April 10, 1916 in Pyeongannamdo – September 6, 1956 in Seoul) was a Korean artist most known for his oil paintings, such as White Ox.
