Untitled is a 1960 ink by June Wayne, held at Museum of Modern Art.
This image shows a large, dark face with a sharp nose and a small mouth. A hand reaches up from the bottom left, holding a tiny object close to the face. The background looks rough and textured, like old paper or stone. The artist used a simple but striking contrast between the dark face and the lighter, uneven background. The hand seems to be offering something small to the face, but it’s hard to tell what it is. If you want to learn more about how this image was made, check out lithography.
June Claire Wayne was an American painter, printmaker, tapestry innovator, educator, and activist. She founded Tamarind Lithography Workshop (1960–1970), a then California-based nonprofit print shop dedicated to lithography.
