About this work

This painting looks like a puzzle made of colored paper. There are big blocks of yellow, red, and blue. Some pieces are smooth, others look textured. A black rectangle sits in the middle, like a door in a wall. The edges are uneven, and the colors don’t blend—they just sit next to each other. The artist cut and glued different papers together. That’s called collage. It’s not trying to look like anything real. Check out Kurt Schwitters to see more of his work.
