This looks like a blank white surface with tiny, faint pencil marks scattered all over. The marks are light and barely visible, like someone drew with a very soft pencil or erased most of the lines. The texture of the background feels rough, almost like sandpaper. The artist used a simple technique—just pencil on a clay board—to create this. The marks don’t form shapes or pictures, but they still make you notice the texture of the surface. Check out stippling to see how artists use tiny dots or marks to create images.
