Untitled
2003
From the collection of Museum of Modern Art
Untitled is a 2003 by Robert Ryman, held at Museum of Modern Art.
This is a blank white rectangle with two tiny black dots near the top. The edges are framed by a thin gray line, and there’s a faint pencil mark on the left side. The surface looks smooth and uncluttered, with almost nothing to grab your eye. The dots and the pencil line are the only marks here—everything else is empty space. The artist used nails to attach the linoleum cut to the aluminum plate, which might explain why the dots feel so deliberate.
