Untitled is a 1931 ink by Rockwell Kent, held at Museum of Modern Art.
This black-and-white image shows a man hanging on a cross. His body is twisted in pain, and his head is tilted back. Behind him, sharp lines radiate outward like light or fire, while jagged waves or rocks fill the bottom half. The artist used only ink and paper to create deep shadows and texture. Every line looks carefully carved, almost like scratching into wood. Check out engraving to see how artists build drama with just lines.
Rockwell Kent was an American painter, printmaker, illustrator, writer, sailor, adventurer and voyager.
