This painting shows a few simple shapes in black ink on light paper. On the left, a bird perches on a branch with quick, sharp strokes. To the right, a cat sits with its tail curled around its body—just a few bold lines define its face and paws. The artist used almost no color, relying only on the contrast between ink and paper. The lines look loose and fast, like they were drawn in one go. Look up Ueda Sōkyū to see more of his work.
