About this work

This painting looks like a messy splash of red against a dusty gray background. The red is thick in some spots, thin in others, with drips and smears that don’t quite form anything you’d call a shape. There’s a faint white patch near the top, but it’s hard to make out what it might be. The artist used a printing method that lets paint sit on a flat stone before pressing it onto paper. That’s why the red looks uneven—like it was poured or scraped on. Check out *lithography* to see how this technique works.
