This drawing shows three simple buildings made of straight lines and shading. The shapes are flat and boxy, like a child’s sketch of a city. One building is tall and skinny, another is wide and low, and the third is a small block with a flat roof. The artist used lines packed closely together to make shadows. This trick makes the buildings look solid even though there’s no color. Look up cross-hatching to see how artists create depth with lines.
