Untitled is a 1914 charcoal by Alexander Bogomazov, held at Museum of Modern Art.
This sketch shows a person sitting in what looks like a chair, but it’s drawn in sharp, angular lines. The figure’s face is simple, almost like a mask, with strong shadows cutting across it. The background is a mix of jagged shapes—maybe a room or trees—but it’s hard to tell because the lines overlap in a messy, uneven way. The artist used only charcoal, pressing hard in some spots to make thick, dark lines. The paper shows through in lighter areas, giving it a rough, sketchy feel. It’s like the drawing was made quickly, with no smooth shading. This style reminds you of cross-hatching.
Alexander Konstantinovich Bogomazov or Oleksandr Kostiantynovych Bohomazov was a Ukrainian painter, cubo-futurist, modern art theoretician and is recognised as one of the key figures of the Ukrainian avant-garde scene.
