Untitled is a 2007 ink by Betsy Damon, held at Museum of Modern Art.
This looks like a map of Texas with a big, messy green-and-blue blob covering most of it. The blob is thick in some spots, thin in others, like someone splashed paint over the land. You can still read parts of the map—words like "Blue Hole" and "San Antonio River"—but they’re buried under the colors. The artist took a real map and added hand-painted layers, making it look alive and wild. It’s like the land is pushing through the ink. Next, check out lithography to see how artists print images this way.
Betsy Damon is an American ecofeminist artist whose work has been influenced by her activism in women's, gay, and environmental rights.
