Untitled is a 1990 graphite by Bruce Conner, held at Museum of Modern Art.
This image is a wall of tiny, strange figures and shapes. They’re all black and white, cut out and glued down in neat rows. Some look like people doing odd poses, others are just abstract blobs or symbols. There’s a big empty space in the middle with a few scattered pieces, like a broken puzzle. The figures seem to be all jumbled together—some are standing, some are floating, and a few look like they’re melting. The artist used simple lines and shapes to make them feel both busy and kind of lonely. If you like this, check out Bruce Conner—he made a lot of work like this.
Bruce Conner was an American artist who worked with assemblage, film, drawing, sculpture, painting, collage, and photography.
