Untitled is a 1969 ink by Ibrahim El-Salahi, held at Museum of Modern Art.
This drawing shows a strange, crowded boat floating on wavy lines. Inside, people with big heads and simple shapes lie down or float. Above them, ghostly figures with long hair and outstretched arms seem to be flying or falling. A bird perches on a post near the shore, and the whole scene feels dreamlike. The boat’s deck is covered in a checkered pattern, while the water below looks like swirling brushstrokes. The faces inside are blurred, almost like they’re melting together. If this style intrigues you, look up cross-hatching next.
Ibrahim El-Salahi (Arabic: إبراهيم الصلحي, born 5 September 1930) is a Sudanese painter, former public servant and diplomat.
