Untitled is a 1932 ink by Kawase Hasui, depicting Rain, held at Museum of Modern Art.
A quiet street glows under rain, umbrellas bobbing like dark flowers. The paper is pale blue, the ink soft gray—water soaking into wood grain. Hasui carved each raindrop by hand. The block was pressed, lifted, pressed again, so the drops seem to fall in layers. He did this for hundreds of prints, all slightly different. Look up more of his work at The Museum of Modern Art.
Hasui Kawase was a Japanese artist who was one of 20th century Japan's most important and prolific printmakers.
