Untitled is a 1924 ink by Kawase Hasui, depicting snow, held at Museum of Modern Art.
A quiet snow covers a village in the mountains. Wooden houses with slanted roofs sit still under white blankets. A thin path winds through the scene, leading your eye toward distant peaks. This print was made using a traditional Japanese method where artists, carvers, and printers worked together. Hasui didn’t carve or print it himself — he drew the design, and skilled craftspeople turned it into a woodcut. Each color in the soft gray and blue sky needed a separate carved block. You can see this snow scene at The Museum of Modern Art.
