About this work

This piece shows seven beige rectangles hanging in a row, each with a thin black strip at the bottom. They’re suspended by strings from a metal bar, tilting slightly like stacked books. The black strips look rough, almost like wood grain. The artist punched holes in the paper and added strings to create this floating effect. It’s simple but makes you notice how the shapes lean and balance. Check out Richard Smith to see how he played with everyday materials in his work.
