This painting looks messy on purpose. There are three big shapes scattered around—a purple blob with a face, a yellow figure lying down, and a tall red-and-black form. The colors are bright but smudged, like someone quickly splashed paint. Lines are sketchy, almost like doodles. The artist used watercolor, which lets colors bleed together. That’s why some spots look wet and fuzzy. Next, check out Roberto Matta to see more of his wild, dreamlike work.
