Augusto Nicodemo

Augusto Nicodemo kept a studio in Naples that smelled of turpentine and burnt coffee, artists there drank espresso straight from the pot to stay awake. His portraits have this sharp trick: they make the paint itself seem to breathe, like skin warmed by sunlight.
