Lynn CBE RA Chadwick

Lynn Chadwick drank too much black coffee and smoked too many cigarettes while making his wire-and-steel sculptures in a drafty barn near Gloucestershire. The figures always looked like they were mid-step, caught between walking away and turning back. If you stood in front of one of his drawings like Untitled from 1957, you’d notice the pencil lines keep breaking up at the edges, like the shape is trying to crawl off the page.
