Dirck Volckertszoon Coornhert

Dirck Volckertszoon Coornhert was a writer, poet, politician, diplomat, translator, and building manager born in the Habsburg Netherlands in 1522 and died in 1590. He is recognized as a Dutch writer, philosopher, translator, politician, and theologian whose intellectual influence extended into the visual arts. Coornhert taught the artist Philip Galle and also instructed the artist Hendrik Goltzius. His roles as a diplomat and politician alongside his literary output defined his life during the sixteenth century. These documented relationships highlight his connection to prominent figures in the art world of his time.
