Artist
Lajos Ábrányi
Lajos Ábrányi is an artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Brukenthal National Museum.
Lajos Ábrányi spent years as a royal librarian in Budapest, slipping ink-stained sonnets into the margins of books he was supposed to catalog. One winter he carved a tiny woodcut of the countess Berta von Brukenthal from memory, leaving the ink so smudged it looked like tears, until you noticed the smile in her eyes. Find that print in the library’s Folio 3 drawer; it’s the size of a playing card, and the paper still smells like old chestnut.
