James Gamble

James Gamble is an artist. 2 works are cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

James Gamble spent his career painting over and over the same quiet London street, Ebury Street, where he lived and worked. He dragged his easel to the same corner for decades, sketching the same red-brick houses and gas lamps, just to see how the light changed. Why? Because he believed a single street held all the drama the world needed.

He belongs in Gallery Tiles because his Ebury Street, Morning Light (1890) is the perfect door into quiet realism, one glance and you’ll start noticing how much beauty hides in ordinary places.
