Born into an artistic family, he was the child of the sculptor Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse, who also served as his first teacher. He furthered his education under the guidance of Alexandre Cabanel and Gustave Boulanger. His career unfolded alongside his sibling, the artist Pierre Carrier-Belleuse.
