Leopold Matthieu was a painter and portrait artist active during the mid to late eighteenth century. Born into a family of artists, he was the child of Anna Rosina de Gasc and the sibling of Georg David Matthieu. His artistic training took place under the guidance of his mother, Anna Rosina de Gasc, who served as his teacher. Matthieu practiced his craft from 1750 until his death in 1778.
