Monogrammist HK

Kingdom of the Netherlands

Monogrammist HK is a Kingdom of the Netherlands artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Rijksmuseum.

This Dutch painter left us a single signed work from 1842. In Pieter Janson, Schilder en etser, majoor der Kurassiers buiten dienst, a retired cavalry major sits in uniform, brush in hand, between the tools of his trade and his art. The portrait is crisp, the light falls exactly where it should, and the sitter’s rank is spelled out, major of cuirassiers, just in case you missed it.
